If you know anything about me, I’m a huge animal lover. And because I’m a huge animal lover, I’m a huge animal rights activist. In my opinion, I don’t think you can be a true animal lover if you don’t fight for the rights of those who can’t openly speak.

Did you know that so many governments and organizations constantly try to cover up what is destroying the planet? Well, I think it’s time to be informed about exactly what goes on in the world.

Watch these 8 eye-opening vegan documentaries about animal agriculture and learn the true meaning behind “vote with your dollar.”

8 Must-See Vegan Documentaries

1. FORKS OVER KNIVES

Forks Over Knives is said to be the documentary that could save your life. It puts the idea of food being used as medicine to the test. Through extensive studies, it has been proven that adopting a whole foods, plant-based diet can prevent and even reverse degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and even several forms of cancer.

This documentary made my boyfriend go vegan. It’s actually the first documentary about animal agriculture we watched together. It wasn’t even 30 minutes into the movie when he said, “I think I’m going to go vegan.” Talk about music to my ears!

2. COWSPIRACY

If you consider yourself an environmentalist, you need to watch Cowspiracy. Animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than cars, trucks, boats, and airplanes combined. It is the number one cause for rain forest destruction, as well as the number one cause of species extinction.

This documentary made me so mad. It made me realize just how much the government hides from us, especially with all the horrible side effects of factory farming. The government chooses money over our health, our animals, and our planet.

3. EARTHLINGS

Warning: Earthlings is extremely graphic, and you’re going to have tissues permanently clenched in your fists.

With the help of hidden cameras, you’ll catch a glimpse of how animals are exploited for human uses. You see factory farm’s biggest secrets. You’ll see the truth about animal shelters and animal testing facilities. Nothing is off limits. And you’ll see nothing the same again.

You can watch it on YouTube for free, but like I said…be warned.

4. LIVE AND LET LIVE

Live and Let Live follows six individuals who switched to a vegan lifestyle for one reason or another. You’ll see why a former dairy farmer became a farm sanctuary owner and why a former butcher turned into a vegan chef.

This documentary sheds light on the ethical, health and environmental perspectives of veganism. It makes veganism seem more approachable.

5. FOOD CHOICES

Food Choices explores the impact that our food choices have on our health, as well as the health of our planet and the lives of the other living species on Earth. This documentary shows how everything is interconnected.

You’ll see interviews of people from all walks of life, including doctors, nutritionists, environmental experts, athletes, musicians,  and even celebrities. You’ll even see real life people who lost weight and conquered disease by switching to a plant-based diet.

6. VEGUCATED

Vegucated follows three meat and cheese loving New Yorkers who take a 6 week vegan challenge. This award-winning documentary is eye-opening, yet still humorous.

These New Yorkers learn all about health and weight loss. They’ll also see that veganism isn’t just a diet. It’s a lifestyle. They will soon risk it all to uncover the truths about factory farming.

7. BLACKFISH

If you think supporting animals in captivity for entertainment is okay, you need to watch Blackfish. There’s a reason why animals in captivity often kill. Animals are forced to do unnatural tricks and are kept in very small enclosures their entire lives when it’s natural for them to move miles a day. They aren’t anywhere close to being free.

People don’t support SeaWorld, but will go ahead and support zoos and aquariums. Maybe this documentary will help you think again.

8. WHAT THE HEALTH

What The Health exposes the corruption in the government and big business that is costing us trillions of healthcare dollars. You’ll learn that big corporations are essentially keeping us sick to keep their profits high.

It’s an investigative type documentary, so if you like suspense and mystery, you’ll really like this documentary.
