Spooky Movies for Halloween
As soon as September 1st hits, Halloween decorations fill my house, pumpkin treats fill the air, and spooky movies fill my television screen.
That’s how much I love the Halloween, spooky season.
And here we are: a list of 31+ Halloween movies to watch this most wonderful time of the year.
With a mix of movies for both kids and adults, some are spooky, some are funny, and some are downright crap-your-pants scary.
Where to Watch Halloween Movies
It seems like more and more, the options for streaming spooky and horror content is growing and growing (heck yeah!).
There are so many places to watch spooky movies for Halloween.
Streaming Services for Horror:
📺 Netflix
From TV shows to movies to documentaries, Netflix has so many spooky and horrifying options.
Plus, you’ll be able to stream a bunch of original content straight from your home.
📺 Hulu
I’ve had Hulu for about a year now, and I love all the exclusive horror content on there.
I highly recommend checking out the Into the Dark section, as it features exclusive horror content for nearly every holiday.
📺 Amazon
Amazon isn’t just for purchasing a bunch of random crap you don’t need.
There’s also Prime Video, which offers a wide selection of Halloween movies.
📺 Shudder
Shudder is a subscription service for the horror, thriller, and suspense genres.
You’ll find originals, movies, TV series, podcasts, and live streaming events.
📺 Tubi
Tubi is a completely free streaming service that has a boatload of horror movies on it.
The downside is there are a couple of ads that play during the content, but they’re short and hardly noticeable.
📺 Vudu
With both free and paid options, there are so many spooky movies for Halloween on Vudu.
Personally, I only opt for the free content.
📺 Disney+
You’ll find a bunch on Disney Halloween classics, as well as new favorites.

1. HOCUS POCUS
What it’s about:
After 300 years, three witch sisters are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween night when a virgin lights a candle.
It’s up to Max, Allison, Dani, and Binx, a talking cat, to put an end to their reign of terror once and for all.
What I love about it:
I can quote every line to Hocus Pocus, so that probably shows you how many times I’ve seen this movie.
I watch it at least two times every Halloween season.

2. HALLOWEENTOWN
What it’s about:
In this Disney classic, teenage Marnie learns she is a witch after following her grandma home to Halloweentown one Halloween night.
With the help of her siblings, it’s up to them to save Halloweentown from Kalibar, an evil warlock.
What I love about it:
It’s filled with cheesy Halloween goodness and reminds me of my childhood.
Definitely watch Halloweentown II: Kalibar’s Revenge and Halloweentown High afterward to soak up even more cheesy Halloween goodness.
(Technically, there’s Return to Halloweentown, but I pretend the last one doesn’t exist, because you just can’t have a different Marnie, okay?!)

3. UNDER WRAPS
What it’s about:
In this hilarious adventure, three twelve-year-olds accidentally set a 3,000-year-old mummy free.
If they don’t get him back into his sarcophagus by midnight on Halloween, he’ll turn into dust – and lose his only chance of being reunited with his long-lost love.
What I love about it:
It’s knee-slapping funny. It’s nostalgic. And it has characters you can 100% root for.

4. CASPER
What it’s about:
A paranormal expert and his teenage daughter move into an abandoned house that’s haunted by three mischievous ghosts and one friendly one, Casper.
What I love about it:
It’s a Halloween classic, and my childhood self went wild and drooled over Devon Sawa.

5. THE ADDAMS FAMILY
What it’s about:
Con artists plan to swindle the Addams Family clan out of their vast wealth and fortune using an accomplice who claims to be their long-lost Uncle Fester.
What I love about it:
They’re creepy and they’re kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They’re all together ooky. The Addams Family. *wink*

6. MOM’S GOT A DATE WITH A VAMPIRE
What it’s about:
Two teenagers set their mom on a date so they can sneak out of the house, because they’re both grounded.
Trouble is…her date is a vampire!
What I love about it:
I grew up watching Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire every Halloween season, and I still make it a yearly tradition.

7. DON’T LOOK UNDER THE BED
What it’s about:
A teen recruits the help of an imaginary friend named Larry Houdini to deal with a prank-playing bogeyman who has been framing her for his cruel deeds.
What I love about it:
I remember being scared by Don’t Look Under the Bed, and now it’s totally filled with nostalgic goodness.

8. DOUBLE, DOUBLE, TOIL AND TROUBLE
What it’s about:
On Halloween night, two young girls try to save their parents from their wicked aunt’s greediness in Double, Double, Toil and Trouble.
Along the way, they meet mysterious new friends and magic abounds.
What I love about it:
It’s a Mary-Kate and Ashley movie. Enough said.

9. TWITCHES
What it’s about:
In Twitches, twin girls – who were adopted into separate families – find out they have magical powers when they turn 21.
They must use their powers to save the world where they were born – the world their birth mom still lives in.
What I love about it:
It’s magical and filled with the perfect amount of fantasy.

10. THE HAUNTED MANSION
What it’s about:
A realtor, his wife, and two children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted.
As they attempt to escape, they learn an important lesson about their family.
What I love about it:
I started this new tradition where I’ll have The Haunted Mansion playing in the background as I put up my mass amount of Halloween decorations.

11. BEETLEJUICE
What it’s about:
When a recently-deceased ghost couple finds their now-vacant home invaded by an obnoxious family, they hire a sleazy ghost who gets rid of humans to help them.
What I love about it:
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice feels like a classic, cozy 80s movie.

12. THE HOUSES OCTOBER BUILT
What it’s about:
Looking to find an authentic, spine-chilling good fright for Halloween, five friends set off with a video camera on a road trip in an RV to track down what truly happens at haunted houses.
What I love about it:
I love Halloween, a good found footage film, and that its sequel is nearly as good as the first movie.

13. TRICK ‘R TREAT
What it’s about:
In this dark comedy anthology, five horrifying stories are woven together on Halloween.
What I love about it:
While Trick ‘r Treat has undeniably disturbing elements, I find it to be a more chill movie to have on in the background.

14. TALES OF HALLOWEEN
What it’s about:
Ten stories are interwoven on Halloween night in an American suburb, where ghosts, ghouls, and other monsters terrorize unsuspecting residents.
What I love about it:
Tales of Halloween is another Halloween anthology to have on while you set up Halloween decorations.

15. HALLOWEEN
What it’s about:
On Halloween night back in 1963, 6-year old Michael Myers stabbed his sister to death.
After living in a mental hospital for 15 years, Myers escapes and returns to Haddonfield to kill.
What I love about it:
It’s a Halloween classic, and I feel like it changed the horror genre for the better.
Plus, there’s an entire Halloween movie franchise – some definitely better than others.

16. THE CONJURING
What it’s about:
Based on the controversial true story, ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren help a family terrorized by a dark entity.
What I love about it:
I’m in love with the Conjuring series, and I highly recommend watching it all the way through at least once in your life.

17. THE RING
What it’s about:
When four teenagers are all met with untimely deaths exactly seven days after watching a mysterious VHS tape, investigative reporter Rachel Keller tracks down the video… and watches it.
Now, the legend is coming true for her too.
What I love about it:
The Ring is the first horror movie I remember watching, as it came out when I was nine.
Now, I appreciate it for the cinematography, soundtrack, and the mystery.
Don’t forget to watch The Ring Two and Rings afterward (even though they can’t top the first movie).

18. LIGHTS OUT
What it’s about:
Rebecca must unlock the terror behind her little brother’s horror that once tested her sanity, bringing her face to face with an entity attached to their mother.
What I love about it:
Lights Out is a paranormal horror, has mystery, and you actually care about the characters.

19. HE’S OUT THERE
What it’s about:
On vacation at a remote lake house, a mother and her two young daughters must fight for their lives after they become prey to a terrifying serial killer.
What I love about it:
I watched He’s Out There outside at night, and it added so much to the ambiance.
Plus, lake and campy movies are one of my favorite sub-genres of horror.

20. OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL
What it’s about:
A widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to their seance scam business – an ouija board – and accidentally invite a genuine evil entity into their home.
What I love about it:
I absolutely love a good paranormal horror movie, and Ouija: Origin of Evil is a terrifying option.

21.PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
What it’s about:
A suburban couple starts to become increasingly preyed upon by a demonic spirit every night.
Their home video camera captures it all.
What I love about it:
I absolutely love watching the entire series, as the story just builds and builds.

What it’s about:

What I love about it:
It’s a classic slasher movie: intense, disturbing, and grotesque.

23. THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
What it’s about:
Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.
What I love about it:
The Blair Witch Project changed the game for horror, making found-footage films popular.
There is also a sequel worth checking out for a one-time watch.

24. THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT
What it’s about:
After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two teenage girls, these convicts unknowingly find refuge at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of the victims.
What I love about it:
The Last House on the Left is suspenseful, horrifying, and you’ll be thinking about it for a while after watching it.
I do want to place a trigger warning for sexual assault on this film.

25. ALL HALLOW’S EVE
What it’s about:
While watching two children on Halloween, a babysitter finds a VHS tape featuring three tales of terror, all linked together by a murderous clown.
What I love about it:
It takes place on Halloween, so it adds to the incredible spooky season.

26. MUNGER ROAD
What it’s about:
On the eve of the annual Scarecrow Festival, two police officers search for a return killer the same night four teenagers go missing on Munger Road.
What I love about it:
I grew up near a Munger Road, so it makes the movie even more eerie.
It’s a shame they didn’t have the budget to make the sequel.

27. SAW
What it’s about:
Adam and Gordon must decide how far they’ll go to stay alive when they’re held captive in a serial killer’s prison.

What it’s about:

What it’s about:
