5 Deeply Spiritual Ways to Help Heal Depression

1. BALANCE LOWER CHAKRAS

Charkas are essentially a network of seven major energy centers arranged vertically along the core of your body.

(There are multiple different systems of Chakras, but I personally use the Western Seven Chakra System.)

You can learn more about chakras in this enlightening book.

An infographic of the 7 main chakras. On the left is says the names of the chakras. On the right, it describes them.

The three lowest chakras are the root, the sacral, and the solar plexus chakras.

These chakras are considered your physical chakras, and they are responsible for your self-image and physical and emotional identity.

Signs of an Imbalanced Root Chakra:

  • Lack of Motivation
  • Feeling Disconnected
  • Anger and Short Temper
  • Impatience
  • Feeling Stuck
  • Greediness

Signs of an Imbalanced Sacral Chakra:

  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem and Insecurity
  • Fear
  • Jealousy
  • Insecurity
  • Detachment

Signs of an Imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Codependency
  • Lack of Self-Control
  • Inability to Set or Maintain Boundaries
  • Addiction

How to Balance:

There are several ways to balance an underactive or overactive chakra. These are the most straightforward ways.

⭐ Listen to Meditation Music:

  • Root: 256 Hz
  • Sacral: 288 Hz
  • Solar Plexus: 320 Hz
Be sure to check out my meditation YouTube channel, Peaceful Awakening Meditations!

⭐ Speak Positive Affirmations

  • Root: I am…
  • Sacral: I feel…
  • Solar Plexus: I do…

⭐ Diffuse Essential Oils

  • Root: Frankincense, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Myrrh
  • Sacral: Orange, Neroli, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang
  • Solar Plexus: Lemon, Ginger, Juniper, Geranium

I currently use Art Naturals oils, but Plant Therapy, Aura Cacia, and NOW are also cruelty-free.

⭐ Use Crystals Associated with Chakra:

  • Root: Red Jasper, Smoky Quartz and Hematite
  • Sacral: Orange Calcite, Citrine, Orange Carnelian
  • Solar Plexus: Tiger’s Eye, Yellow Jasper, Lemon Quartz

⭐ Wear Colors Associated with Chakra:

  • Root: Red
  • Sacral: Orange
  • Solar Plexus: Yellow

⭐ Eat Foods Associated with Chakra

  • Root: Red Potatoes, Strawberries, Cherries, Tomatoes
  • Sacral: Oranges, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Coconuts
  • Solar Plexus: Lemons, Corn, Bananas, Yellow Squash, Pineapple

I listen to meditation music every day throughout my day as a way to remain as balanced as I can.

It’s one of my favorite spiritual ways to help manage my depression (and anxiety).

2. DO SHADOW WORK

One of my absolute favorite parts of mental health management lies in getting to the deep inner workings of my soul, also known as shadow work.

What is Shadow Work?

When you think of nighttime, you think of darkness. You think of things that are hidden and not seen.

The moonlight helps shine a light on these gritty inner workings of our thought patterns, decisions, and actions.

Shadow work helps you see the areas of your life that could use some maintenance.

That being said, shadow work and emotional health go hand-in-hand.

Speaking of shadow work, I talk a lot about shadow work on my podcast. ↓

Examples of Shadow Work Questions:

  • What is currently blocking me?
  • What am I currently clinging on to?
  • How can I let go of my current situation?
  • Why am I so sad and lonely?
  • What truth have I been avoiding?

I could seriously go on and on, because we all have areas to improve on.

But the premise is…what currently needs some attention in your life?

3. USE CRYSTALS

We talked a little bit about crystals in the Balancing Your Lower Chakras section, but let’s dive a bit deeper.

Not only are crystals and stones incredibly beautiful, but they can also be powerfully healing.

I like to think of crystals as bringing nature inside.

When you’re out in nature, the sun, the rain, the clouds, the grass, the trees, rivers, lakes, and oceans…they all help ground and make us feel connected to the earth.

Bringing crystals indoors helps bring these healing properties into your environment and surround you with their benefits.

Favorite Negative Clearing Crystals:

1. Rose Quartz

2. Black Tourmaline

3. Smoky Quartz

How to Use Crystals:

⭐ Meditate: Hold them during meditation or hold them when you feel depressed or stressed.

⭐ On Your Body: Carry them around with you in your pocket or purse. Wear them as a necklace or bracelet.

⭐ Surrounding Space: Place them around your home, especially on nightstands, window sills, desks, and by electronics. Put them in your pillow while you sleep.

The main thing to note is to use crystals with intention. Crystals won’t work fully for you unless you allow them to.

4. NUMEROLOGY

Numerology can help you discover your purpose and your path in life, which is wonderful for when you’re trying to recover from deafening depression.

What is Numerology?

The premise is everything in the universe has an energy vibration – and numbers are no different.

This means every number and letter has its own unique vibration that influences the story of our lives

So in other terms, numerology is the study of the relationship that numbers and letters have with our personality and life events.

I highly recommend reading up more about Numerology in Numerology Made Easy.

How to Calculate the Numbers:

With numerology, a common rule of thumb you’ll encounter is: continue adding numbers together until you get a single-digit number between 1 and 9.

For example: 1234 would be 1+2+3+4 = 10 → 1+0 = 0

The only reason you wouldn’t break the number down into single digits is when you get 11, 22, or 33 because these are master numbers!

This might sound confusing, but I promise it’s a lot easier than it seems!

You’re more than welcome to use an online numerology calculator to get your numbers.

Western Pythagorean Number-and-Letters Chart

The chart above represents the Western Pythagorean Number-and-Letters Chart, where each number represents a letter.

For example: 4 represents D, M, and V; 7 represents G, P, and Y; 9 represents I and R

You’ll use this chart to find your different personality numbers.

Important Personality Numbers:

There are several personality numbers, but these are some of the most important.

Life Path is who you are, your life purpose, and the path you will walk on in this life.
Destiny Number is who you’re destined to become.
Soul Number is who your soul desires you to be so you can feel content and complete.

You can find the other personality numbers in this book or Numerology.com.

Personality Numbers Meanings:

Number 1: The Independent Individual

Number 2: The Cooperative Peacemaker

Number 3: The Self-Expressive Creative

Number 4: The Dedicated Worker

Number 5: The Freedom-Loving Adventurer

Number 6: The Responsible Caregiver

Number 7: The Contemplative Truth-Seeker

Number 8: The Business-Minded Leader

Number 9: The Compassionate Humanitarian

Number 11: The Inspirational Teacher

Number 22: The Master Builder

Number 33: The Master Healer

Head to Numerology.com to discover what all of these mean!

Finding Your Life Path:

To find your life path number, you’ll need to add every number of your birthday together and break it down until you reach a single digit.

We’ll use my birthday as an example: June 14, 1993.

With June being the sixth month of the year, it’ll look like: 6 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 33

Because 33 is a master number, we won’t be breaking down that further.

But in accordance with the Personality Numbers Meanings, I’m a Master Healer – meaning my life purpose is to help heal others and lift them up.

Finding Your Destiny Number:

To find your destiny number (who you’re destined to become), you’ll need to write your full, original birth certificate name and match the corresponding numbers to each letter – so first, middle, and last name.

For convenience, I’ll show the Western Pythagorean Numbers-and-Letters Chart again.

Western Pythagorean Number-and-Letters Chart

I won’t be using my full name on here, but let’s use Mary Anne Smith for example.

So let’s do this.

Mary Anne Smith = (4+1+9+7) = 21 | (1+5+5+5) = 16 | (1+4+9+2+8) = 24 → (2+1) = 3 | (1+6) = 7 | (2+4) = 6 → (3+7+6) = 16 → 1+6 = 7

After you break down all the numbers, Mary’s Destiny Number is 7. She’s destined to become The Contemplate Truth Seeker.

My destiny number is 9, The Compassionate Humanitarian, if you’re curious!

Finding Your Soul Number:

To find your soul number (who your soul desires you to be so you can feel content and complete), you’ll add up all the vowels in your full birth name.

We’ll use Mary Anne Smith for this example as well. Only using vowels, her name is MY AE I.

MY AE I = (1+7) = 8 | (1+5) = 6 | → (8+6+9) = 23 → (2+3) = 5

Mary’s Soul Number is 5, The Freedom-Loving Adventurer.

If you’re wondering, my soul number is The Compassionate Humanitarian.

And like I said before if you’re totally lost, head to Numerology.com for more insight!

5. SPIRITUAL PODCAST
